Louis Armstrong หรือชื่อเลานว่า Satchmo (แซทช์โม) เป็นนักร้องนักทรัมเป็ตเพลง Jazz ขาวอเมริกัน Louis Armstrong เกิดที่เมืองนิวออร์ลีน ในย่านสลัมคนผิวดำ พ่อเป็นกรรมกร แม่เป็นแม่บ้าน เติบโตมาด้วยการประทังชีวิตให้อยู่รอด หาเงินโดยการเป็นนักร้องวงประสานเสียงของเด็ก ๆ ได้ร้องเพลงตามที่สาธารณะ พออายุได้ 13 ปี ถูกจับตัวที่บ้านคุ้มครองเด็กเนื่องจากนึกคะนองยิงปืนขึ้นฟ้า ที่นี้เองทำให้เขาได้เรียนเป่าคอร์เน็ต (Cornet) ในวงดนตรีของบ้านคุ้มครองเด็ก

จนเมื่อเขาอายุสามสิบปลาย ๆ เริ่มมีปัญหาเรื่องนิ้วมือและริมฝีปาก ทำให้เขาหยุดเป่าทรัมเป็ตในปี 2502 อาร์มสตรองหันมาพัฒนาความสามารถในการร้องเพลง จนเป็นนักร้องที่มีชื่อเสียง เขาได้ออกทัวร์เล่นดนตรีในยุโรป จนมีชื่อเสียงระดับโลกในยุคทศวรรษ 1950 เขามีเทคนิคการเปล่งเสียงเลียนเสียงเครื่องดนตรีที่เรียกว่า "สแก็ท" (Scat Vocal) เขายังได้แสดงภาพยนตร์ขนาดยาว มีผลงานยอดนิยมกว่า 50 เรื่อง จนได้ฉายาว่า "Ambassador Satch" ซึ่งก็โด่งดังกว่าเป็นนักร้องเสียอีก อาร์มสตรองเสียชีวิต ที่กรุงนิวยอร์กเมื่อวันที่ 6 กรกฎาคม 2514 รวมอายุ 69 ปี ด้วยอาการหัวใจล้มเหลว
